The picture directing you here from the "History" page shows the signatures of the Consecrating Team. A further explanation of this can be found in the Early Days page.

The Lodge was consecrated in October 1969. In order to be considered for consecration, a proposed Lodge has to be sponsored by a sufficient number of existing members of the Order, who are prepared to act as Founders.

The Founders are, therefore, very important to the history of any Lodge. Below is a list of the Founders of Rivermead Lodge 8278. Without the original enthusiasm and commitment of these Brothers, the Lodge would not be in existence today.

* Denotes Passed to the Grand Lodge Above

As is common practice, Rivermead Lodge Founders were all presented with a Founder's Jewel. The Jewel to the left bears the insignia of a founding deacon and was presented to W.Bro. Brian Herschell, who was also Master of the Lodge in 1972. A full size image can be obtained by clicking on the picture. Information about the Lodge Crest can be found on the Lodge Crest page.

The Founders' Jewels were, in fact, made of sterling silver. They are hallmarked with the lion, indicating sterling silver and the leopard's head, indicating that they were assayed in London. The maker's mark, EP, shows that they were made by Ernest Pobjoy Ltd, originally from Streatham but latterly in Surrey. While the register of companies suggests that this firm has ceased trading, it appears that it has evolved into Pobjoy Mint.

The date letter "p" indicates that the Jewels are dated 1970 to 1971, the year after the Lodge was consecrated.
